Harmony Energy, alongside partners and stakeholders, was delighted to mark the official inauguration of France’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS), the 100 MW / 200 MWh Cheviré facility, located at the Port of Nantes–Saint-Nazaire.
The event brought together elected officials, local authorities, partners, reporters and project team members to celebrate a project supporting the decarbonisation of the electricity grid and France’s wider energy transition.
Reflecting on the event, CEO of Harmony Energy France, Andy Symonds, said:

“Built on collaboration, hard work and ambition, this project illustrates how far we have come in just four years since the creation of Harmony Energy France and demonstrates our ability to rapidly deploy essential energy storage infrastructure to support the path to net zero, without reliance on public subsidies.
“We look forward to continuing this journey and to building the energy projects of tomorrow together.”
The site was energised in August this year, following the start of construction in summer 2024. Developed on the grounds of the former Cheviré fossil fuel power plant, which operated for more than three decades, the facility now stands as a powerful symbol of France’s clean energy transition.
The battery energy storage system has the capacity to power the equivalent of approximately 170,000 homes for two hours, greater than the population of Nantes. It will play a key role in reducing carbon emissions, strengthening energy security and helping to mitigate electricity price volatility.
